Architectural detail, Forbidden City, Beijing, China. Tentatively identified as the Hall of Mental Cultivation and former quarters of the monarch's concubines. Built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) it served as the residence and seat of government for the monarchs of both the Ming and Qing dynasties. UNESCO named it a world heritage site in 1987.
